So Nate dropped Tim and Liz off at the airport this morning a little before 5AM today and on the way home had an interesting adventure. Shortly after getting back on I35W north towards Minneapolis, I hit a patch of black ice. I was driving under the posted speed limit due to the dicey conditions, when suddenly I found myself sliding sideways and began fishtailing down the middle of the interstate. I ended up spinning around and slid backwards into a concrete barrier that was directly adjacent to the right lane of the interstate, and stopped, facing on-coming traffic in the right lane. There were a lot of cars coming, so I couldn't turn around and get out of the way. Many of those cars were swerving and sliding around trying to avoid my truck. I bailed out, jumped over the barrier and ran a few yards up a hill, just in case someone were to slide into me. Fortunately nobody did, however two other cars did bump each other while trying to stop in front of my truck.
I successfully managed to single handedly close down I35W for about 30 seconds while the highway helper stopped traffic so I could turn around. How fun is that!!!
Below are a couple of pics of the damage. Not too bad considering what could have happened had there been other cars next to me, or if someone would have slid into my truck after I stopped spinning. What a fun morning ;)
